Sooker

A bold, uncompromising voice with an approachable air

About this typeface

I first started working on Sooker in 2004, but could never quite get it to a place where I was happy with it. And so it sat on a drive somewhere, gathering dust for over two decades.

My type design eye has improved a lot since then, and I recently decided to dust it off and give it another go. I’m really happy with how it’s turned out.

Sooker is designed to have a bold, authoritative presence while remaining approachable and readable. It is ideal for posters, headlines, and other display uses where you want to make a strong impression.

Sooker comes in six weights, from Regular to Black, and will eventually support the Latin S character set, so it will be suitable for a wide range of languages.

Where can I get this?

It's not available yet! I'm really happy with the upper and lower cases, but this is a design from 2004 and font technology has advanced since then. There's some behind the scenes work to do, and a few bits of tidying up, but I should be able to get this out soon.

If you feel this could work for your branding projects, or if you're a font foundry and like what you see then let's talk! Email: hello at andrewgraham dot dev.

Taskmaster is a British comedy panel game show created by comedian Alex Horne. It is presented by Greg Davies, as the Taskmaster, and Horne, as the Taskmaster’s assistant. In each series of the programme, a group of five celebrities (mainly comedians) attempt to complete a series of challenges, referred to as “tasks”. The Taskmaster then reviews the contestants’ attempts and awards points based on performance, interpretation or other arbitrary, comedic factors. A winner is determined in each episode and for the series overall. The concept for the programme was first created by Horne for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010; he later secured a deal with Dave to adapt it for television with the first episode premiering in 2015. After the ninth series in 2019, the programme was acquired by Channel 4. The programme has completed 20 series, as well as five Champion of Champions specials and seven New Year Treat specials as of January 2026, and is set to continue for at least one more series in 2026.
